About Me (Fandom Snowflake Challenge #4)
Hello! ^_^ I'm finally doing something for Fandom Snowflake, specifically Challenge #4: the Icebreaker Challenge.
Names: Creepy Shetan, Shetan, Samia (SAH-mee-ah), Saum (SAHM)
** Etymologically, "Shetan" is related to "Satan," but that's not where I got it, I promise. XD; I borrowed the name from a certain famous fictional horse from children's literature! :D The "creepy" part came from an orange T-shirt I loved. I felt it described me well as an adolescent weirdo.
Pronouns: she/her, although I'm not especially attached to any pronouns
Age: 30-something (35+)
Languages: English (native), Japanese (advanced, but in a laid-back way?), Urdu and Punjabi (native, childhood/adolescence mostly), French (2 years in high school), Russian (1 year in college, can still read Cyrillic), random bits and pieces in a few others that I've picked up over the years
Family background: my family immigrated from Pakistan to the US in 1980, settling down near my mother's sister's family -- all of the adults in my family that I knew when I was growing up have passed away
Siblings: two older sisters (both have husbands, kids, and pets)
General work history info: Pre-K and K-12 education, English as a Second Language (ESL) education, university language lab, public library youth department, bookstore bookseller
Places I've lived: Mississippi, USA (born and raised! lived in another city for university, stayed in MS after graduating, returned to MS during the COVID pandemic);
Tokyo (studied abroad for a semester/almost 4 months), Saitama Prefecture (worked there for 5 years and stayed for an extra 3~4 months trying to find a similarly good job), Miyagi Prefecture (since summer 2022! currently have a similar-but-not-so-good job here), Japan
Favorite color: any shade of blue (followed by purples, greens, blacks/grays, and silver)
Favorite season: autumn/fall (the weather, the scenery, plus my favorite flower blooms then)
Favorite animal: wolf, but a few others are not far behind! I love animals~ =^.^=
Favorite fruits: peach (yellow or white), plum (American type > Japanese type), mikan orange
Favorite vegetables: carrot (standard orange type), radish (the small, red, round variety), sweet potato (orange/golden or purple)
Favorite chocolate bars: Snickers, Crunch / Crunky, Kit-Kat, Reese's (in that order, I think, because 2.5/4 are easy to find in Japan -- I also love Lindor truffles, Ferrero Rocher, M&Ms, ...)
Favorite accessories: two silver rings (one on each hand) whenever I go out anywhere -- can't really wear jewelry to work, so all of my other stuff hasn't been worn much lately
Pets I wish I could have: a cat or two, or maybe a cat and a medium-sized dog (my apartment doesn't allow pets T^T it's too small, anyway. I've only had my furry and feathery nieces and nephew in my life for too many years now)
Favorite Pakistani/Desi diaspora food / dessert: family style chicken or beef keema with basmati rice or roti (not naan) + veggie pakora / firni [phirni] (tough choice, but I like it slightly better than kheer) + burfi [barfi](okay, this is getting out of hand, haha)
Favorite food / dessert in the States: blackened (spicy) catfish fillets / any type of cheesecake
Favorite Japanese food / dessert: kitsune (fried tofu) soba noodles / any type of mochi
I will come back and add fandoms! XD;; I lost track of the time...
Don't type while you're hungry, y'all. Don't be like me. 6^^;; I'm pretty sure it's why many of my posted fanfics have foods and drinks in them somewhere...
Fandom time~! ♫ :D
My oldest fandom interactions: Sailor Moon, Gundam Wing, Yu Yu Hakusho, Yoroiden Samurai Troopers [Ronin Warriors], Tekken, Final Fantasy VII, Digimon, Beyblade, Yu-Gi-Oh, Devil May Cry, Harry Potter...?
(let's get some of the embarrassing stuff out of the way early 6^^;; this is roughly 1998 to 2002, and my fandom participation for these primarily consisted of hanging around certain forums and reading & reviewing fanfics -- did some beta reading, too, for an FF7 author I adored)
(Fun fact: I met my oldest and best internet friend through ff.net, when we crossed paths in a completely separate fandom comm on LJ! :D We still haven't met in-person somehow. XD;; Got really close a couple of times, but... We've spent countless hours on the phone and on voice/video chat, though, and wow, I need to mail her something soon...)
My long-time favorites that continuously bring me joy and other feelings: X-Men, Batman, Star Wars, Tolkien (The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, LOTROnline), Sailor Moon, Gundam Wing, Gundam 00, Yu Yu Hakusho, YST/Ronin Warriors, D.N.Angel, Antique Bakery, Final Fantasy VII, Devil May Cry, Guilty Gear, Resident Evil (game/CGI 'verse), Inception
More favorite fandoms that play with my emotions: professional tennis, Sunshine (2007), Star Trek (AOS), Avengers/MCU (at this point, mostly anything related to Loki the series, plus Kamala Khan and all the X-Men stuff we know is coming), Peaky Blinders, The Witcher (TV and some book 'verse), Castlevania (TV 'verse), Stranger Things (mostly particular characters), Good Omens (not in it that deep, please don't get too excited 6^^;;;;)
Favorites that I generally haven't touched the fandom side of: Cowboy Bebop, Wolf's Rain, Dragon Ball Z, Studio Ghibli films, manga by CLAMP, Fruits Basket, Ouran High School Host Club, Anastasia (1997), 10 Things I Hate About You, The Mummy (1999), Spider-Man, How to Train Your Dragon (animated 'verse), John Wick, Blade Runner, 12 Monkeys (TV 'verse), Kinou Nani Tabeta? [What Did You Eat Yesterday?]
Fandoms and things I once enjoyed but have dropped due to various reasons: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Supernatural, Sherlock, Harry Potter, Kingdom Hearts, Tekken, Rurouni Kenshin, D.Gray-man, Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Gintama (every Jump series is so long...)
Fandom and things I once enjoyed but have since faded away online: BBC Robin Hood, Spooks/MI-5, ITV Whitechapel, Being Human UK, The Musketeers, Broadchurch (s1 esp), Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Eureka, Chuck, White Collar, Burn Notice, Psych, Common Law, Almost Human, Leverage, The Librarian/The Librarians, the early years of .hack, Star Ocean 3 (it was tiny)
Big fandoms I've never touched (sorry): Avatar: The Last Airbender, Twilight, The Hunger Games, Percy Jackson, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead (only saw the pilot ep), Outlander, Downton Abbey, BBC Merlin (watched s1 only? through s2?), Attack on Titan, My Hero Academia (meant to!), Kimetsu no Yaiba [Demon Slayer] (meant to try it, at least), Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, The Untamed (okay, now we're just getting into my "to watch" list XP;;)
Guilty (?) pleasures: Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai [Twittering Birds Never Fly] (EVERYTHING. ALL OF IT. I LOVE IT.), Banana Fish (anime 'verse) (haven't read the manga, so... it is, perhaps, the least predictable thing I've seen in the past decade XDDD), Togainu no Chi (are you noticing a pattern here?), X/1999 (the ever-unfinished manga 'verse -- Tokyo Babylon made me mad, though, lol), Snowpiercer (movie 'verse -- haven't seen TV 'verse yet), that genre of sci-fi/fantasy action movies that The Fifth Element, Jumper, Riddick, Underworld, Blade, Resident Evil, Dredd, Doom, G.I. Joe, The Last Witch Hunter, etc all fall under, parody doujinshi made by now-well-known manga-ka (especially doujin they made of their own characters)
Things I feel guilty about being behind on: Leverage: Redemption (can't watch s2 here T^T), Doctor Who (I will catch up on Twelve and Thirteen one day!), Star Wars (not elaborating on which parts...), Star Trek (I have no way to watch all of the recent shows), Law & Order and its spin-offs (picked it up during COVID -- not happy with where it's been going, but there are still characters I like), newer adaptations of certain anime series (Fullmetal Alchemist, Digimon, Fruits Basket, Trigun, etc), newer Gundam anime series (Iron-Blood Orphans, Witch From Mercury), Final Fantasy (didn't finish 13, couldn't play 15, still can't play 7R), my frankly ridiculous number of video games I have on Steam but have never played, let alone the ones I haven't finished yet, Marvel/DC/etc comic books are hard to keep up with when you're outside of America...
Some of my favorite fictional children: Remy LeBeau / Gambit, Anya, Dimitri, Bruce Wayne, Terry McGinnis, Meiou Setsuna / Sailor Pluto, Chiba Mamoru / Tuxedo Kamen, Duo Maxwell, Zechs Merquise / Milliardo Peacecraft, Date Seiji, Hashiba Touma, Vincent Valentine, Reno, Rufus Shinra, Cloud Strife, Kaiba Seto, Otogi Ryuji, Ky Kiske, Testament,I would defend literally every character in Guilty Gear with my life, even Crow, Leia Organa, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Kylo Ren, Evelyn Carnahan O'Connell, Michael Westen, Eliot Spencer, Parker, Alec Hardison, Urameshi Yusuke, Kuwabara Kazuma, Sohma Kyo, Honda Tohru, Future Trunks Briefs, Ashitaka, John Wick, John Allerdyce, Bobby Drake, Billy Hargrove, Steve Harrington, Robin Buckley, Elio's father in the movie 'verse of Call Me by Your Name, Kamala Khan, Kamala's mother, Logan / Wolverine, Loki, Mobius M. Mobius, Dante, Nero, V, Vergil, Jill Valentine, Leon S. Kennedy, Piers Nivans, Carlos Oliveira, Trevor Belmont, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, Carmen Sandiego, Hilda
Some of my favorite real-life creative and cool people (15? let's do 15 I couldn't handle it, so now it's 20): Cillian Murphy, Ishiwatari Daisuke, Utada Hikaru, Odagiri Joe, Ewan McGregor, Andy Murray, David Tennant, Emily Blunt, Natalie Portman, Adam Driver, Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Henry Cavill, Robert Pattinson, Diego Luna, Kanno Yoko, Katherine Hepburn, Daniel Radcliffe, Richard Armitage, Tom Hardy
If you've made it through this rambling mess of a post, congratulations and I'm sorry. XD;;; I am incapable of keeping it brief when I'm talking about the geeky things I love. I hope you understand. As you can see, I've been all over the place in fandom. I may seem to jump around a lot, but I often return to things eventually. Y'know how it is -- there's just so much out there to enjoy. ~_^
And now I need an actual meal... Until next time!

That is on my list of things to watch! I've heard it was canceled after s2, sadly.

Yes, Our Flag Means Death is a unique show, I hope it paves the way for more shows like it. We're all hoping it gets picked up by another company, now it's been cancelled by Max. The writer wanted 3 seasons, it's not much to ask to get one more season is it...

I watched all of Sherlock, but it was rough at the end. I rewatched the entire series with a friend some time ago, and it just doesn't hold up very well overall. =/
